Recovery, sustainability, and less waste.

A bit about the Artist

Since I was a little girl, I have loved nature – being outdoors has always brought me peace and calm.  As I grew older, the way my body looked became more important than anything else, including my dreams; I traded in my childhood for 10 years of an eating disorder born from severe anxiety and mental instability.  After years of misery (that I didn’t know I was living in), I found therapy, and I was suddenly reminded of the immense freedom I felt as a child.  I never wanted to go back to the dark hole of anxiety and self-loathing that I lived for the past 10 years. Colorful nature is my reminder that I don’t have to worry what I look like, and I can just exist in the natural freedom in our world – the colors and childlike joy, all of it.  This is why I want to share my artwork with you all today.

Sustainability & Upcyling

The idea tht I work with now is nothing is ever too borken to be recovered, including you. What that means in the context of my work is I am both focusing on sustainably made pieces, as well as upcycling or removing material from the landfill. Yes, it is often a lot more work than buying a premade canvas at the store; but it makes every piece unique, and reduces the amount of waste items that would be going into our landfill (we have ENOUGH going there already). This ends up with me collecting scrap wood, discarded or thrown away items in my alleyway, thrifting for materials, and also using bamboo or agave fiber paper to make my high-quality art prints.
